Cash was born in Justiceberg, Texas on Nov 10th 1934.  He attended San Angelo Junior College and played both Baseball and Football.  He was drafted by the Chicago Bears as a Running Back, but opted on Baseball instead.   Cash started his professional Carrer with the White Sox, then was traded to the Indians.  In one of the most lopsided trades in the history of Baseball, Cash was traded by the Indians to the Detroit Tigers for Steve Demeter - who would go on to play a total of 4 more games his entire carrer.

In 1960, Cash grounded into no double plays the entire season, 1st player to do that in the American league since the time the stat was created in 1940.  He had his greatest season in 1961, leading the league in hitting with a 361 Batting Average but his season was overshadowed by Roger Marris and his 61 HR Season.  Cash latter admited that he used a corked bat during that season, drilling holes in all of his bats and filling the hole with sawdust, cork, and glue.

At the Time of his Retirement, Cash was 4th all time for Left Handed hitters in HR's trailing only Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Ted Williams.  Cash was also a fine defensive 1B, leading the league in assists 3 times and fielding percentage twice.  As good of a hitter as he was, after his 1961 season, he never scored over 100 Runs or had 100 RBI's, possibly because he was hitting behind Al Kaline and Willie Horton most of the time.

Norm Cash died in October 1996 when he drowned in a boating accident.  He apparently sliped and hit his head and fell into the lake, he was discovered floating in about 15 feet of water.
